A total of five Penn State Altoona soccer student-athletes were recognized by the College Sports Communicators for their academics, when the CSC announced its 2024 NCAA Division III Academic All-District teams on Tuesday, Nov. 19.
Penn State Altoona’s Ivyside Pride choral group will offer its fall performance, “Joy,” at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, Dec. 5 and 6 in the Wolf Kuhn Theatre of the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts. The concert features classical, gospel, folk and contemporary selections, as well as African American spirituals.

Libero Anna Batrus was voted to the first team, middle blocker Makenna Port and outside hitter Lia Simanski were both second-team selections, and middle blocker Taylor Myers and outside hitter Ella Hadley were picked to the third team.
The NCAA announced its 64-team Division III Women’s Volleyball Championship Tournament field on Nov.18, officially selecting the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference champion Penn State Altoona women’s volleyball team to its postseason.
Penn State Altoona forward Dwayne Jones, of Philadelphia, was chosen as the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference’s Player of the Week in men’s basketball on Nov. 18.
Tri-Alpha recognizes the academic achievements of first-generation college students who must have 30 credits and a 3.2 GPA. Inductees will receive a pin and certificate.
The 22 nursing majors included members of the Altoona chapter of Student Nurses Association of Pennsylvania and students enrolled in the Community and Family nursing course. They conducted blood pressure screenings and provided interactive game for attendees to test their knowledge of CPR, AED use and other life-saving measures.
Yaw Agawu-Kakraba, professor of Spanish and African studies at Penn State Altoona, gave a lecture on and readings from his award-winning novel, “The Restless Crucible,” at the Pagya Literary Festival in Accra, Ghana, on Oct. 19.
Todd Davis, professor of English and environmental studies; Carolyn G. Mahan, professor of biology and environmental studies; and author Noah Davis are the editors of “A Literary Field Guide to Northern Appalachia,” published by the University of Georgia Press.
